I guess but Gen-Xers seem to like to use the fact that they're outnumbered to push the notion that everybody's picking on them

Boomers looking right through you like you aren't there is a different psychological damage than Boomers putting Millennials under a microscope and constantly enumerating their flaws I guess

I wonder how many Millennials had the experience of being told by Gen-Xers that they were their best friends

The Millennial experience definitely involves people older than us being weirdly needy at us throughout our childhood "Your destiny is to fulfill the prophecy and bring about the new era"

I think it's worth noting that "Chosen One" emerged as a definite trope of fiction *during our generation*. It was around before, but the whole idea of a singular, chosen heroic savior wasn't nearly as pronounced before Harry Potter, Star Wars, and a few other properties got there

But the first Star Wars was in 1977.

I think @BootlegGirl means the Star Wars prequels, which were the first time the series officially introduced the idea of a "Chosen One"

Correct. Before that Luke was in a position he was born into, making him important, but that wasn't even introduced until the second movie and it wasn't divine preordination

And Yoda, at least, didn't think Luke was the ONLY person who could succeed, i.e. when he says "No, there is another" to Obi-Wan late in Empire.
