Right, and I recognize that now, but at the time I watched it I refused to read it that way and read Jenny as the real protagonist
I don't really feel like victim figures and Christ figures are the same thing, the whole idea of the Christ figure is even as he suffers you get the idea that deep down he's untouchable
She's a pretty ready Mary Magdelene then.
Eh... only in certain Gnostic interpretations of Magdelene, and even then not really since Mary was redeemed in Christ. Jenny resists Forrest, runs from him, is made to "pay" for her various sins (promiscuity, drugs) by getting abused and sick and ultimately dies.
I am 100% sure it is not the movie intent to present her as "tainted", not the objective take-away. Jenny's arc is mostly about how she tried to run away from her bad fates and take a better turn when she decide to take her own life in hand instead of letting other or drug do it.
She won't even accept Forrest to be her savior, despite having tempted to even if she knew it was safe. She decided she had to be her own woman instead of just letting herself be taken by the flow of life.
