I hope you're documenting all this.

Zach have you ever actually talked to an intersex person besides Intersex Facts?

I have consulted and talked with many intersex people over the course of my research. Would you like me to list them here?

1) Yes. 2) I'm curious as to why you're ignoring the Malta Declaration.

I've gotten many perspectives, research, and knowledge from these voices. They're great, and they don't all think the same btw.

Do you support everyone being able to change their sex on their legal documents, and having a third option for those who who want one?

Those who go through the proper legal and medical documentation should be able to change their sex on their legal documents, yes. And I don't really care if there's a third option. I can see why certain intersex people would want it, while others might not.

You're hedging on what it actually says, Zach It is explicitly opposed to requiring any kind of "medical documentation"pic.twitter.com/j3TPRp6xd1

Of course the Malta Declaration is out of date, the more recent Darlington Statement revises this and makes it much clearer, stating that the concept of the sex binary itself constitutes "structural violence":pic.twitter.com/TOrmhomZUk

Both declarations make it clear that the end goal is NOT merely providing a path for intersex people to alter their sex classification on their documents but AN END TO THE LEGAL CONCEPT OF SEX CLASSIFICATION

Spot on! Largely because it makes, at best, little difference to IGM outcomes to have a third or other sex classification. There's also concern that the third sex category could actually encourage IGM by prompting parents to agree to whatever was needed to ensure M or F.

Anyway, this is a good time to mention that the Darlington Statement includes the option for anyone to affirm it and publicly support the human rights of intersex people.https://darlington.org.au/statement/
