The most disappointingly unrealistic part of the story of the Emperor Who Had No Clothes is how long and drawn out and painful the process of all his flunkies eventually admitting the kid was right would behttps://twitter.com/kcpoehl/status/1253824746128642050 …

Stephen Hahn, head of the FDA, was on with Anderson Cooper and Dr Sanjay Gupta last night. When questioned, he refused to say that taking disinfectants was a bad idea. Fell back on “people should talk to their Dr”. Everyone in this admin is a joke.

"why is everyone dismissing the possibility that the child was not pure of heart? Frankly we should blame the mother who raised her child so badly it couldn't see pure of heart clothes and was exposed to the sight of a man's genitals"

Adults who know it's critical they pretend to see the clothes: the emperor has clothes! Kid: the emperor has no clothes Adults, realizing that if they admit to lying everything falls apart: why should we believe a kid anyway, who put them up to it

Obv it's intended to be a morality story rather than something that actually occurred, but if it's taken literally it runs into the problem of all "and then everyone stood up and clapped" stories, namely: what happens next? The emperor abdicates in shame and doesn't kill the kid?

I mean the point of the story is that all regimes based on lies have to collapse eventually, and I think that's true enough, it's just not as neat and satisfying as advertised

Like I seriously think the more realistic version of The Emperor Who Had No Clothes ends in someone pulling out all these photos two years after he dies and being like "Look can we finally acknowledge he was naked all this time" and then there's a civil war

This time has taught me that the child who points out the Emperor’s nakedness would have been locked up as a loony.

I thought it was a "from the mouths of babes" thing, that an innocent heart can tell truths adult don't want to admit
