this thread is less life-threatening than trump's comments re bleach, but it is nonetheless in the same territory of bonkers.https://twitter.com/asymmetricinfo/status/1253798528587104257 …

This is not a scientific assessment, just an idle speculation, and please take it in that light, but, looking at all the infections at choir practice, soccer games, restaurants, etc, what if one big problem is ... noise? This would also help explain why NYC happened so fast.

writing is one of those things where the leading lights of the profession just stroll out every day to remind you that meritocracy is a myth.

I know twitter is unfiltered but if you start your thread about the pandemic with "this is completely idle speculation" maybe you should just stop.

this is just idle speculation and I haven't seen any data but it seems possible that covid is caused by nose hair.

Screenshot because hopefully she'll delete that nonsense. The "oh this would explain NYC" bit is the thing that really seals the deal. Not the density, but the noise level.pic.twitter.com/bjoSpltYOv

Yeah the "steelman" of this claim has so many disclaimers attached to it that it's totally pointless Certainly a raucous nightclub is somewhat more likely to spread the disease than if you did an experiment where all those same people stood in total silence but so what

Any practical suggestions you could take from this, like her actual suggestion that opening up restaurants would somehow be okay if they were quiet restaurants, is batshit
