Years ago there was a moment on Modern Family where Luke made a difficult trick shot then immediately lamented that he didn’t get it on camera and I almost exploded. (I think they’ve always taken the approach that the documentary isn’t real but still.)

Oh yeah on Modern Family it was ALWAYS the case that "mockumentary" was just a storytelling format, the talking heads have them confessing shit there's no way they would ever confess to a stranger to be revealed in public

I've never seen the US Office, but in the UK one the documentary is a pretty important plot point. Brent becomes a D list celebrity because of it. Did that not happen in the US one?

The US Office's time frame is absurdly extended past the British series, for years and years, the idea that they're actually still making a simple documentary about the paper company is absolutely absurd by the end
