I've though about the competing nature of storage in delivery in terms of electricity a bit, but I guess it can be generalized. For electricity storage has historically been bad and that is why we have extensive delivery networks for it. But that is now changing.

Maybe with food things it is moving in the other direction. As delivery is better able to fill the needs it starts take mind space from storing. Shorter time from purchase decision to consumption could be the thing people making the switch are prioritizing.
