That's fair, and of course, it's entirely possible to be an ethical private landlord. But Option 1's success relies on all those individual people being ethical private landlords and not, as most do, hiring a cheap management company and delegating their responsibility away.

Sure but I just don't think 1 and 3 are that different Like, the whole system of finance that makes 3 possible is layers and layers of abstraction trying to get people not to think about where the interest they get on their savings comes from
