Yeah John Lennon is still listed as an MBE on Wikipedia even though he sent his insignia back as an antiwar protest

I think that if, for instance, Sir Patrick Stewart OBE goes through with the process of acquiring US citizenship the protocol would just be to not call him "Sir Patrick" in an "American context" but to continue to do so in a "British context" as long as he's a dual citizen

I didn't know he was planning that he should also adopt Kristen Stewart, just to keep things clear

He said as a US resident for decades he thought it was time to finally pull the trigger so he could vote against Donald Trump, although he may not make the deadline

would he lose his UK citizenship (separate from title)?

Not automatically, he'd be a dual citizen

Ah. I've never been clear on which countries don't allow that. I know the US technically can force non-birth dual citizens to reject their other citizenship, although they usually don't?

You have to renounce your other citizenship to get a security clearance, I know that

Ah, okay, I was slightly misinformed People who actively naturalize as US citizens have to take an oath renouncing all other citizenships, most dual citizens in the US inherited their other citizenship through their parents

So Sir Patrick would have to give up his UK citizenship, and from a US perspective that would make all his UK titles invalid (but the UK doesn't fully agree)

I actually should've known that because I know my parents don't have any other citizenships after they became US citizens, although I guess I unconsciously assumed this had to do with Taiwan's ambiguous status

Yeah I also just looked this up and because of Taiwan's ambiguous status there is no official definition of a "Taiwan citizen" even in Taiwan But my parents do have right of return to Taiwan and the right to vote in Taiwan elections still
