A ton of the original cases are Sherlock refusing to let something apparently trivial go because there's someone vulnerable - often a woman or a child - in danger

A lot of "sociopath Sherlock" takes came out of people being inspired by House, even though that was a massively twisted take on the character (And I would argue that House also started off as obsessed with the vulnerable but also got flanderized)

Like, the essence of House's character was supposed to be that he was FURIOUS with doctors "giving up" on patients and just letting them die of a "mystery" illness, because it had actually happened to him and that's how he lost the use of his leg

in the show i watched growing up, he was more annoyed by manners. Like, he didnt much care for british upper crust manners cause they took so long but he wasnt UNWARE of others feelings

Agreed. The Holmes of ACD's stories has a strong sense of justice & is capable of empathy. He also recognizes social norms, but just chooses to ignore or bat aside some of them. SHERLOCK's Holmes is quite dissimilar to ADC's Holmes.

My exposure to the original stories is from the BBC radio series which is awesome and also he was an arrogant prick and blunt to a fault but also sympathized with victims immensely and sincerely respected when others were helpful

Also, he's a gentleman of a certain class and era, so while he might be abrupt and prickly with some people, he's never actually rude. When he really wants to dress someone down, he says it plainly, not like an asshole.

That story when he faces an extortioner, sees full well one of its victims murdering him and just peaces outletting her go scout-free, versus that story when he seduces the identity of a killer but doesn't alert the police because, well, it was deserved
