Yeah we've all talked about how No True Scotsman defenses aren't helpful with Christianity ("No one involved with the Spanish Inquisition was a REAL Christian") and I don't think it's useful for movements on the left to do it either ("Nor REAL feminists", "Not REAL socialists")https://twitter.com/9BillionTigers/status/1251625258253078528 …

It seemed pretty clear from the context of Jay's tweet that he was referring to the inherent contradictions between transphobia and the basic tenets of feminism - not necessarily saying that it's invalid to refer to any transphobes as feminists. I could be wrong, ofc

"inherent contradictions between transphobia and the basic tenets of feminism" This does not exist in any sense whatsoever other than a moral one. Fair play to that, but it makes the practice and study of sociology, history, and politics much harder.

Yeah I mean if you can't be transphobic and feminist at all then the entirety of first-wave feminism wasn't feminism (because everyone at the time casually accepted transphobic premises) Which is an argument you can make but is a rickety one

It's like the people who define "true Christianity" such that true Christians nebulously may have existed for like 50 years in the 1st century and then vanished until liberal universalism in the 19th century
