"Ender's Game's" inclusion is... interesting, certainly; but if you've never once encountered well-read feminist Democrat/Left-of-Center women with a "complicated" perspective on Rand and "Atlas" in particular you're telling on yourself as not having talked to a lot of them. https://twitter.com/EliJMassey/status/1251182006299439105 …

Rand is ridiculous as a "philosopher" and her politics are as abhorrent as they are/were incoherent - the reason she "clicked" when she did and endures now is because (like a lot of batshit narcissists processing trauma via fiction) she was a compelling writer...

i stand by that atlas and fountainhead are tapping into a very real thing when it comes to the villains. She just seems to think conservative cultism is called socialism

Yeah the villains of Atlas, the big ones, are actually awful capitalists, she just papers it with a bunch of thin prejudicial representations of socialism

The really ugly thing in both Fountainhead and Atlas is the idea that a handful of exceptional wolves are being held back from improving the world by a flock of short-sighted sheep who need to get out of the way. That kind of thinking creates Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

The things Rand calls "socialism" in Fountainhead and Atlas aren't, sure, but those narratives are still rabidly opposed to any kind of collective action. Only individual entrepeneurs and their greed and throbbing erections can save us.

Yeah it's like even if you say it's just about the philosophy on a personal and not societal level the values are still pretty toxic Ayn Rand personally thinking she was Dominique Francon/Dagny Taggart is why all her relationships fell apart
