they're trying to astroturf up another tea party and it's gonna work again, tbh american conservatives love astoturf, they support it 100%, they rush to manufactured mass movements like a moth to the flamehttps://twitter.com/existentialfish/status/1251497219628445696 …

It kinda was, yeah, Tom Paine accused it of being such and John Adams ended up halfway admitting it The main beneficiaries of the Revolution were the wealthy

Let the rich keep from being taxed, let the rum runners legalize their distilleries, let tea importers import directly from the source, let the slaveholders hold slaves without consequence from London...yep. It was about the rich.

You can tell the American Revolution was a phony revolution because it immediately led to multiple further revolutions against the new government - Shays' Rebellion, the Whiskey Rebellion - that were then swiftly and brutally put down

Well, when you fight a war that is ostensibly against illegal taxation on all, then your new government taxes people to pay for the war, the taught reaction is to keep rebelling.

Yeah when I say John Adams admitted the revolution was phony I just mean that, in his lugubrious way, he wrote an essay pointing out that both taxes and "civil unrest" went UP after the founding of the USA when they promised everyone they would both go down

It all depends on who you ask, I suppose. Was the goal to end "taxation without representation"? If so, then it succeeded within the limitations of 1780s representation in government (white male landholders, who were the primary executors of the American Revolutionary War).

But if you interpreted the goal of the ARW to end taxation period from a non-local source, then yeah, you'd be pretty pissed when the new federal government came a'callin'.
