Well, it would mean that the government would have control of businesses like United Airlines and force them to spend the "bailout" money on paying employees rather than investors

There are, of course, many employees that aren't working right now, but the investors were never working at all, so it's just a question of which set of people you want to give money to for not working (and how large the set is)

Qatar Airways is a real pleasure to travel on, and is state-owned.

Pretty good, when compared to the situation that would arise if there were no state-run education.

They've had failures because people like you don't want to pay for them, they're still a lot less bad than not having them would be, and the attempts to "fix" them via market solutions (charter schools etc) have been disastrous giveaways to grifters

Private schools are substantially worse than public schools on average You don't realize this because like most Americans you think of "private schools" as being the elite schools the wealthy go to and "public schools" as meaning poor inner city schools That's deliberate

Not to mention a good chunk of them are religious private schools which adds a whole other layer of problems

Oh yeah people's fucking IDEAL for how poor kids should get educated if they can't afford expensive private school is the church should provide schooling as charity They don't realize how utterly garbage such schools always have been and still are

If we spent $30,000 per student on public schools like private schools do, we'd be hjaving a different conversation.

No, actually, wealthy public schools are really good, the property-tax-based system for funding schools means public schools are subject to the same market forces as private ones, just somewhat blunted
