We should be demanding more robust government assistance obviously.

Sure it can. It can literally print more money. Plus it can divert funds from stuff we over spend on that we don’t need. Like the military

Hyperinflation has very little to do with the situation we're in (it's basically always the result of a government being forced at gunpoint to pay off a debt to an external creditor), but I guess that's a little too complicated for middle school

Personally, I'm more concerned about deflation, which is literally never talked about.

Seriously, people aren't working, which means money isn't moving. A reduced flow of money means fewer effective dollars, therefore deflation. And if you think inflation is bad, deflation is a death spiral. Your debts get so large as to be completely unmanageable.

Oh yeah it's the absurdity of doing a rent freeze for three months and then expecting you to pay three months of rent all at once after three months of being out of work, but multiplied by all of society

The whole concept of "everyone owes everyone else something but there's no actual cash anywhere" won't be a thought experiment anymore, you can see it happening right now

Cf. the dark joke about how artists' Patreons are just "passing the same $20 around in a circle" but now the $20 is gone

Tangent: That joke is old enough (and dark enough) that I remember when we told it about Artists Alleys at comic cons, 20 years before Patreon. (And I bet it wasn't new then either.)
