Yeah. Today I heard the argument that not voting is "the only way to communicate to party leadership" on healthcare and it's like - no, actually, I've heard of letter-writing, too. The silent treatment isn't famously effective at making progress.

I don't like to think it like this because it seems reductive. But I do wonder how much of this sentiment lies just on a weird appeal of radical "aesthetic" the love for the image of the masses in revolt. Pics of the french revolution, Che, not actual sound policy.

I think the thing is that the "lefter-than-thou" crowd tends to assume that that they are "above" politics. Despite the amount of grandstanding they do about "democracy" and such, there is this self-righteous air that they are usually just "too good" to "lower themselves" to vote

Therefore when they DO participate in the Democratic process, we are all supposed to bow down at their noble self-sacrifice in awe-inspiring gratitude, the moral equivalent of God descending from the Heavens to give this "flesh-n-blood" thing a try.
