Exactly. It's that same disengagement from the reality everyone else is experiencing because it doesn't fit one's narrowly-defined expectations of it. Also it's really telling he thought Buddy Holly was the big loss in that crash musically and not Ritchie Valens.

Well, the song calls Holly, Valens and Richardson "The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost", so I dunno that he favored Holly *that* much, it's just that Holly was the one with the "widowed bride"
