Thinking about the time Everclear released a covers album of their own greatest hits and every music critic was like "why does this exist??" and i'm like you fools it's obviously that the mechanical license to the songs gave more money to the label than the sheet music license

Makes me think of how Jonathon Coulton released a cover version of Glee's cover of his cover of Sir-Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back" because they didn't ask to use his version or cut him in on profits.
