Yeah, and I *mostly* don't agree with that faction either, but on the other hand... Phantom Menace was the most embarrassing of the three by far, but I remember most of what happened in it. Attack of the Clones, I enjoyed more at the time, but it just slides out of my brain.

As a member of that faction, I will say that while I don't think Phantom Menace is a GOOD movie by any means, the "course corrections" made in AotC are just Lucas clearly abandoning his original ideas for the trilogy in favor of fanservice without actually getting better ideas

Nothing in TPM, awkward and bizarre and misguided as that movie was, felt *perfunctory* in the way that all the Anakin/Padme romance did in AotC

TPM is the only one of the three that I can actually REMEMBER, tbh. I am AWARE of the things that happened in the other two, but mainly, I suspect, because I am aware that they HAD to happen to "get" to New Hope

Yeah that's why I don't even like RotS, no one really behaves like a human being in that movie, everyone's being pulled on puppet strings to just force the Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker to wrap up on schedule and set up the story we already know

Part of this I feel is TPM's fault. It used up 1/3 of the trilogy to accomplish basically none of the essential story that needed to happen, so they had to cram 3 movies worth of plot into the remaining 2.

You can argue against the idea that there should have been anything that "needed to happen", but that's basically decrying the entire idea of a prequel trilogy. Which is a legitimate view, but isn't really useful for ranking prequels against each other.

And they sold us something darker, much as I feel TPM has its moments. The promise of the poster with Jake Lloyd with Vader's shadow was never fulfilled

Both the prequel and sequel trilogies kind of peaked in the teaser trailer for the first movie stage

I remember how let down I was when Sidious's big line from the first trailer "Wipe them out. All of them.", which I and just about everybody else assumed was about the Jedi, turned out to be about the goddamn *Gungan Army*.

Just like RotJ Lucas got weirdly sidetracked by his adorable aliens
