Discussion: are trilogies* a bad idea at this point? Because I can't think of a recent (past 15 years) planned-as-a-trilogy series that didn't at best end with disappointment and at worst utter disillusionment

At the cost of turning Padme into a cardboard cutout and Anakin himself into this deranged, unhinged Tommy Wiseau archetype spewing emotion all over the place

RotS is basically the showcase for Ian McDiarmid--to a greater extent than RotJ or Rise of Skywalker, he gets to carry the movie, I think in part because he doesn't get the withered-face prosthetics until relatively late in it so he can act more. Everyone else is disposable.

I mean, this is why they let Dave Filoni do a seven season fix fic that actually works if you watch the whole thing :P

Part of this I feel is TPM's fault. It used up 1/3 of the trilogy to accomplish basically none of the essential story that needed to happen, so they had to cram 3 movies worth of plot into the remaining 2.

That's what the seven season animated fix fic is for!

hot take, all the problems with the prequels are driven by a single central contradiction: 1: this is the story of the fall of anakin skywalker 2: "the protagonist must be a hero!"
-
which leads to them making obi wan the central character, which leads to changing the focus of the story to him, which leads to the enormous number of dead-end plot threads that don't matter
