I've actually thought about this a lot and I feel like the fact that, from a human POV, Simba actually does respond to his father's death by essentially dropping out of school and going to live in a stoner house for like ten years went right over most of our headshttps://twitter.com/n_lea/status/1249053118991454208 …

The movie itself kind of muddled this since when Simba flees the Pridelands it's because the hyenas are chasing him and they straight up say "If you ever come back we'll kill you" so Nala calling him an irresponsible coward isn't 100% fair

Spending a decade actively finding ways to not process trauma is 100% real.

Nala's reaction to finding Simba is such a relatable moment if you translate it into a human context "THIS is where you live? THAT'S your job? THESE are your friends?"

"Yes, Nala, they're my friends because they don't judge me and I don't judge them" "And that includes hygiene?"

The stoner pals not really understanding what's going on but they're your pals and they're going to be there for you and also crash at your place is also pretty real.

...Someone needs to get Cheech and Chong to redub Timon and Pumbaa.

Yes, but that doesn't preclude having Cheech and Chong do line readings for those two, ideally after getting really high.
