That one episode of Star Trek Voyager was vaguely inspired by thishttps://twitter.com/MikeDiver/status/1248903864243367936 …

This was pretty widespread iirr. There was a TV show that picked up on it and made up a suit; of which there was then a book. https://twitter.com/Chinchillazllla/status/1248872206786060295 … pic.twitter.com/m9koFUV2l2

The weird thing about that episode is it tries to be an allegory about creationism, like the dino sapiens have this religious faith in their origin story and refuse to accept any scientific evidence they're actually dinosaurs from Earth But it's not a good metaphor

Because disbelieving that they're dinosaurs from Earth isn't an irrational religious faith because that explanation is for so many reasons objectively incredibly stupid

A big part of it is just the thing about having no sense of temporal scale Troödon lived 77 MILLION YEARS AGO If they had space travel 77 MILLION YEARS AGO, what the hell have they been doing for 77 MILLION YEARS Homo sapiens sapiens has only existed at all for 500k years

They also did an episode where Janeway and Paris start evolving rapidly (?!) and eventually "evolve" into slugs. With no changes in the environment or evolutionary pressure. And with no reproduction required. Literally over a matter or days. You know, evolution.

Honestly when I saw Arthur talking about "a Voyager episode about lizards evolving into people" I just ASSUMED that he was talking about Threshold, not that there were TWO different Voyager episodes involving this concept

Yeah that's the other way around, people "evolving" into salamanders

The dinosaur episode had them ask the computer to "project" hadrosaur evolution (into Voth) and what most annoyed me is that the rubber science wasn't even necessary to the plot. They already had some Voth DNA, simply comparing it to birds would put them on the right track
