I really don't understand the argument that Star Trek Picard is a dystopia. Like, lots of really horrible stuff happen in TOS and TNG, and in the movies, it just didn't have contemporary production values

In Voyager they show all the discarded 1.0 Doctors in a literal chain gang doing manual slave labor to mine radioactive asteroids (This makes very little sense given how hologram AIs are supposed to work but they didn't feel like being subtle)

And yeah the stuff about Federation members threatening to secede if they let the Romulan survivors join was extremely not new Do people not remember the whole big thing with the Maquis and the Cardassians
