We kind of went through this with almost concern trolling about seatbelts and how plenty of people who wear seatbelts wear them "incorrectly" and a standard car seatbelt is nothing like the harness trained pilots have in planes etc etchttps://twitter.com/Tuplet/status/1246289483483320321 …

So having an n95 mask doesn’t mean you’re good?

Well, except for the religious right, who still likes to insist that the microscopic holes in latex are too big to stop HIV. Which, incidentally, reminds me a hell of a lot of the way people are talking about masks now.

I thought their argument was that to take one away from a doctor using it properly and instead putting it on a rando incorrectly would be a net negative? I could get behind that reasoning, though if it's "don't use it if you're doing it wrong" then yeah that's dumb.

It's really ridiculous to me because this is obviously partly an attempt to stage demand for the product, but overall it is American cultural arrogance as usual. When I was in South Korea, N95 masks were in every single convenience store. And guess which country handled this best
-
Obviously we have supply issues right now that make everyone wearing an N95 unfeasible. But it's just absurd to suggest that they're not helpful, when South Korea beat the virus and has completely normalized them, and Japan has almost as slow a response as us but better numbers

I haven't encountered too much argument that having one is worse than not having one, but I have heard 6 feet of distance is better. Hand- waving the supply chain problem doesn't make it go away; every N95 mask I have is one less for an ER doc somewhere.
-
I had to go to the grocery store today, and while I'm waiting at the deli counter, a fellow shopper wearing a surgical mask and latex gloves completely ignores the clear 6-foot markings on the floor and pulls their cart right up next to me. I just backed off and let them go first

Aside from those abstinence only idiots that make that exact argument. This terrible argument seems to be a repeating pattern among dopes.
