That’s a no for me, dawg. At a time where Asian diaspora from around the world are experiencing massive racism and discrimination, @AndrewYang basically just told us to suck it up, eat a cheeseburger and buy an American flag. Our community unequivocally rejects this piece.pic.twitter.com/pqdi7x1BAF

Soooo what are the other options? Get into fistfights? Genuinely curious.

Nobody is saying NOT to volunteer, donate and do things that many AAPI are already actively doing. But to perform these actions out of some twisted idea of 'being more American' is backwards and wrong. Also, racism needs to be called out. Period.

But we’re all Americans and AAPI proudly embracing and displaying that fact helps hammer that point home. The most decorated unit in military history was one of Japanese Americans - they all enlisted for WW2 service even as their families were thrown into interment camps.

Yeah did you actually see Allegiance? Do you think it was really of net benefit to the people trapped in those camps that people were pushed into volunteering for meatgrinder suicide missions?

No, but I’ve studied the subject extensively. Your ‘net benefit’ question is bizarre - obviously it would’ve been better for internment not to have occurred at all, but it did. And the heroic actions of the 442nd saved many lives. Was that bad?

It means that they were exploited, yes The reason they were the most decorated unit isn't just that they were brave or competent - that's only half the equation for why people get medals The other half is they were consistently sent into harm's way because they were expendable

We’re all aware of the racism back then. Why do you keep on pointing out the obvious? Point is there’s historical precedent for Yang’s suggested approach and it can help.

It didn't help Did any of the wartime heroism actually give any of the interred families their land and money and jobs back? Do you think medals given decades late and reparations given later "helped"?

The rescue of the Lost Battalion in 1944 was the classic Saving Private Ryan situation of spending 800 lives to save 200 Is that something you think people should feel good about? That the brass made the calculation this was a fair trade?

The actions of the 442nd were unequivocally heroic - why are you disputing this?
