Well, no, it's not really aisle crossing, it's people who vaguely think piracy is bad but don't think about it much being "activated" by seeing threads from authors personally testifying about how it's devastated their lives

Sure. Thing is, that giant sucking sound, middle class artistic etc etc not being coincidental with technology and all that you mentioned? The boom of representation for people like me that came alongside it, also not a coincidence I think
