Please tell me Arthur. What are the consequences in years to come if we decide that libraries don't need to function at any decent level of service during disease outbreaks? Tell me about the people suffering there and how they're being served.

Most of these authors would probably give you a free ebook key themselves if you asked nicely, the issue is IA suddenly and unilaterally deciding on their behalf "You don't need this revenue stream right now, it's an emergency"

I mean... yeah? How many one on one DMs do you think authors would be responding to as millions of families get stuck at home with their kids? That's not sustainable in a pandemic either.

Right but the reason people are missing that is, by and large, because the argument has very much been centered around the "you don't deserve my work, fuck you pay me, I need to eat" one to one personal approach It's like reading first year philosophy students have an argmuent

Authors need to eat much more than any individual reader needs to read their book It's not a symmetrical situation at all
