What kind of compensation do you want a library, which has obtained it’s books legally, to give to authors? We’re living a global crisis. Libraries have closed and students need access to books. What good is there in locking away knowledge? How does that benefit anyone?

How do you know that they're sharing more? Like there's no restriction on copies but they could sharing a lot less. And we have even less evidence this will harm author earnings.

It makes me genuinely sad that during a time of national crisis, book publishers (and some authors) seem to only care about their own profits.

The publishing companies themselves have been noticeably silent The vocal pushback has been from orgs like SFWA, the Authors Guild, the NWU - labor unions representing authors, not publishers
