It's also worth noting that that top 1% of content creators are rich by normal standards - rich enough to inspire envy from the rest of us - but aren't anything CLOSE to actually rich rich The most famous "influencers" in the world make a living trad media considers "decent"

And that's just comparing raw numbers without taking inequality into account (the top 1% of creators both in traditional publishing and new media have done pretty well, it's the bottom 99%, especially the bottom 50%, that's been hollowed out)

It's that bottom 50% that needs more attention, like there's a huge difference between a norm of being paid starvation wages as an unsuccessful artist and a norm of never being paid AT ALL, the takeover of the "for exposure" mindset
