For me, anyway, it was less the song (and I do hate the song) than the affect of the whole video just being one long "Hey look at me! I'm famous!" thing, like the simple fact that a bunch of famous people are in the same video is enough to hype up

Oh, there was that. Plus, there was the chasm between what they intended the affect to be, and what it was for the imagine video. The Backstreet Boys did exactly what they meant to do here
