If the name of the virus is SARS-2-COVID and the disease is COVID-19 but some carriers are asymptomatic, why do we talk about "COVID-19 infections"

I think they really were going down the route of calling the disease itself "SARS 2" and then someone deliberately put a stop to that because they knew people would be looking up the 2003 SARS as a guide to the new one, which would lead to tons of misinformation
