This whole “ideas landlord” thing: You’re welcome to take my ideas and turn them into novels yourself. Writing is about a lot more than ideas. Ideas are the EASY part. You’re not paying me for ideas. You’re paying me for years of hard work learning how to make them readable.

At an inflated rate thanks to state violence to censor those who would transmit certain bits of information. One can labor hard to produce a good of minor value or of non-rivalrous nature and get paid little. Oh well. Those of us with ethics push a mop or ask for donations.

"Intellectual property" is an artificiality that imposes scarcity & hurts overall productivity of creative content. The debate has long been over. The only people remaining are rent-seekers and fools who think they're temporarily embarrassed Steven Kings. http://www.dklevine.com/general/intellectual/againstfinal.htm …

Shockingly, I *might* just be aware of that, as a working author who has release some works under Creative Commons licenses and who is published via a DRM-free publisher in the United States. Check who you’re arguing with in future?

There is a huge difference between a store saying "We're not going to subject our customers to bag checks or anti-theft tagging, if there's some shoplifting so be it" and a store saying "We're not going to have checkout counters, just take whatever you want"

Indeed it's the fact that people have just decided "DRM-free means I have legal and moral permission to put this up for free download" that makes people so wary of going DRM-free despite free benefits

The equivalent of being the asshole who goes "There's no bag check, they practically want you to steal it" Or "If you HAD to tip even if you don't feel like it then it wouldn't be a tip"

Oh now you're going to get the crowd who think not-tipping is a perfectly moral solution to employers who use tips as justification for paying staff only ~$2/hr.
