This kind of thing is why the "free culture" movement from when I was in college was so utterly unsuccessful at winning over the hearts and minds of the vast majority of working artistshttps://twitter.com/JoshuaYJackson/status/1244269783610265605 …

The worst thing about this is that honestly the hardcore anti-IP stance is antithetical to Marxism and is if anything extremely "liberal" "It doesn't matter who wrote the book, once it exists anyone should be allowed to read it" is textbook alienated labor
-
"I'm a fan of the BOOK, not the author, I don't see why I owe the author anything just because they wrote a book I like, they already got paid years ago" is textbook commodity fetishism - delusionally thinking you have a relationship with a product and not a person

I think the public domain should be a thing again, Disney shouldn't be able to copyright ancient folk tales for ever and keep Steamboat Willy in perpetuity. People need to be able to interpret old works and profit. Pirating sucks, buying things you like encourages more of them.
-
If there were a lot of public works and adaptations out there, bored people without the wherewithal to buy things could likely get a lot more free content. We don't need so much H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, but anything no one kept up copyright on is up for grabs so we see tons.

Accelerationism is bunk anyway - we're currently seeing the result of accelrationism in the US and the result is... Biden.
