They COULD have checked to make sure that none of the content in this "emergency library" was currently in print and available for sale, to shore up their "abandonware" defense It wouldn't be that hard But it would be taking extra effort to make their collection less attractive

Sometimes I wonder what can be done to discourage this sort of thing through the library systems we have already. One thing I do know can be improved is ebook rental for libraries themselves. Not sure if you've tried, but there are some horrid systems out there...

I think part of the reason these things happen is because nobody's been able to make renting electronically as frictionless as the Amazon Empire has. We all hate amazon, but have to admit that their ebook game is unmatched.
