… 2,000 people have died from this in the US in the last 48 hours. Are you claiming that’s a normal death rate?https://mobile.twitter.com/RVAwonk/status/1244035891284381696 …

Or is that too *mainstream* for you? This is from ONE DISEASE. These things escalate exponentially!

2,000 people did not die in 2 days. That’s the total. A person in the US dies every 12 seconds. If we have tested a million people, and it tells us that 10% test positive, an that’s true for everyone, then every 2 minutes (120 seconds) someone is dying with coronavirus.pic.twitter.com/Qk8k2MjCM1

Yeah, I did misread. My bad. It’s a thousand people dying from it in 48 hours. Which is a lot. It means that in two days the death count doubled. The doubling time is going to keep getting shorter if we don’t head this off. Which we aren’t as things stand.

Once again we have a vivid demonstration of how uneducated people's intuitions are completely unable to deal with simple mathematical concepts like exponential growth People's brains assume linear growth no matter how many times you tell them it's wrong

I’m not asking for exponential growth or forecasting. I’m asking to see the data we have, right now, compared to normal. We have 2 weeks of info. We know respiratory failure is a top 10 killer. We know covid-19 has no differential diagnosis, based on symptoms, from pneumonia.

Yeah you're not asking for that because you're stupid The growth rate matters A LOT and pointing to the current numbers saying "Well they're not that high" without looking at HOW FAST THEY GOT THERE is classic, fundamental stupidity

America simply cannot sustain itself under the crushing weight of this much stupidity across such a large percentage of the population.

She's talking about "executive overreach" when the executive has really done very little No one is actually exercising force to stop her and millions of people like her from running around outside and coughing on people and throwing all the house parties they want

I don’t know where you live, but here it’s a misdemeanor and $500 ticket.

As far as I'm aware Whitmer's ban is on holding public gatherings of more than 50 people, which most ordinary people aren't in a position to do anyway

She deserves praise for an aggressive response but no governor has gone to the point of actual enforcement against regular people failing to practice social distancing (visiting each other's homes etc)

I don't know if our society is equipped to go that far.
