Or even Ardyn or Emet! (ok he's basically the exact opposite of either of them) Like at least Ardyn has deeply fucked up shit like hanging up illusions of your dying loved ones in his throne room entirely to fuck with you for shits and giggles.

Holy shit that's grotesque in the best way.

Yeah, you'd think Palpatine would do similar sorts of monstrous troll antics, but his entire range of villainous ambitions appears to be purely "I really get off on electrocuting people"

Going back on the “he fucks” thing was such a bad move, it makes him less interesting, when he needed to be MORE.

It gave him humanity, which is the opposite of what he needed.

Or what I meant to say is that it kind of fumbled that all the way through. On the surface it seems to, but really it just makes him more disconcerting.

I mean I hate the whole Rey is a Palpatine thing to begin with but making her a dad a failson bastard instead of an abortive clone is more interesting.

I would prefer whichever version of the story they actually filled in any backstory for to make it make even the tiniest amount of sense but that's neither one

Although the total lack of explanation for who the hidden bastard's mother was, how old he was when his heritage was discovered, what it means that he "chose to be nobody" as though he could've been Sheev's heir, etc were at least mundane questions

Rather than this insane, off-the-wall set of questions the clone explanation brings up (If he's a failed experiment who has no powers how did he even escape? Why wasn't he just immediately killed? In what sense did he "choose" anything?)

He's the Cloud to Sheev's Sephiroth. The failed clone who ended up as the original's downfall. Now we need to figure out who the Zack was.
