The whole "Do we choose between a recession or a die-off" thing is so stupid You CANNOT prevent the recession, it's TOO LATE It's like your car is driving into a lake and you're going "Do I hit the brakes to avoid water or hit the gas so I can still get to work on time"

What people want to say is that "Well, South Korea went really hard on their response, and they have a lower infection rate than we do, but there must be some *benefit* we got from holding off, we did that so the economy would be boosted elsewhere right"
-
And the answer is no The death toll will be worse, the economy will be worse, everything will be worse It was just straight up the wrong decision, just like driving into to lake was not any kind of shortcut but just going the wrong way

There was a tradeoff, just not the one people think. The tradeoff was that people like Richard Burr had time to unload stocks before the economy tanked and came out ahead. That's it, that's the only people who benefitted.
-
And if people go back to work, the tradeoff will be another round of people like him who unload more stocks on the initial uptick before it crashes even worse when we start to see how bad things get from that decision.
