Yeah, odds are - entirely reasonably - a lot of us are going to come out of this quarantine, and the subsequent depression, pissed, a bit more eager to Get Mine, and desperate for a life-affirming party. Quarantine as moral lesson almost never works.

It's why the positive reforms from this *have* to be things that make peoples' lives easier, long-term. and more valued, or they are doomed to a massive reactionary backlash.

I don't know why we haven't been able to shake the notion that suffering is ennobling and that deprivation breeds good habits. The right pretends to believe it because they like suffering and deprivation (for other people) in their own right, but what's the left's excuse?
