I'm not especially fond of the idea of creating more social pressure to close off human contact.

Because I mean that's probably how it would go. You know, perverse pressures of capitalism, endless quest to destroy basic human social interaction, et cetera, et cetera.

I mean - is any of this on the table?

I don't enjoy wearing a mask when I go to the supermarket but it's something I could get used to

I don't know if you've ever been in the position to be recognized in public by strangers but it's not as pleasant as some people imagine

Oh yeah, that's a whole separate thing. But just the general "we will now be expected to wear masks everywhere" thing seems...farfetched?

What they're realistically saying is masks may become culturally acceptable to the extent they are in, say, Taiwan, where you wear them when you're on public transit or running errands in crowded spaces

The idea of wearing them all the time and never taking them off like The Mandalorian is a strawman, it's not possible

Even that is still excessive, dude. "Everyone wears masks in crowded places and on trains" is not an ideal outcome.

Like, for public health reasons or personal health reasons, sure, that's an immediate situational response. I know some folks feel the need to do it for health reasons when there's lots of fires or pollution, but I don't think it's something to push as a permanent Social Norm

Flu season is a permanent "health reason" and arguably lots more people die every year in "normal" years because our country doesn't take this stuff as seriously
