The whole "Do we choose between a recession or a die-off" thing is so stupid You CANNOT prevent the recession, it's TOO LATE It's like your car is driving into a lake and you're going "Do I hit the brakes to avoid water or hit the gas so I can still get to work on time"

It's literally insanity, it's a cognitive error in the way the human brain works when consequences aren't immediate, it's the real life reason people die in the woods because they just keep on walking after they get lost

(And yeah the episode of The Office where Michael follows the GPS directions and just drives right into the lake, even though he can clearly see that's what he's doing while he's doing it, is an instructive metaphor for how we've handled this crisis)

In this analogy, they seem to think they can just roll up the windows and get a free car wash out of the deal

The current "well maybe just a LITTLE die off" talking points are basically "well yes okay we'll still be wet on the other side, of course there's gonna be SOME water, but it's worth it to get back on the road," never mind that a car with that much water won't still run

To stretch this metaphor to the limit, THERE IS NO ROAD ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE People are really reluctant to accept the fact that, sometimes, you just made a wrong decision and you have to fully accept the consequences of that and turn back around
