The only way to not have a recession was to not take the wrong turn into the lake, i.e. testing and containment before the virus became widespread in the population The idea that you can drive through the lake, stay dry, and find your destination on the other side is delusion

It's literally insanity, it's a cognitive error in the way the human brain works when consequences aren't immediate, it's the real life reason people die in the woods because they just keep on walking after they get lost

(And yeah the episode of The Office where Michael follows the GPS directions and just drives right into the lake, even though he can clearly see that's what he's doing while he's doing it, is an instructive metaphor for how we've handled this crisis)
