It's funny that in 2003 this was a kind of quirky cultural moment in China that seemed so surreal to the rest of the world And now we have SARS 2: WORLD TOUR and it's not funny anymore

(It literally is SARS 2, the virus is a mutation of the SARS virus and it was named SARS-CoV-2 They chose not to put SARS in the official name of the disease, COVID-19, because the disease has very different characteristics from SARS and the name could lead to misconceptions)

I was a sophomore at Swat when SARS hit and was planning to study abroad in Vietnam the next year but my study abroad program got cancelled. So I ended up going to (wait for it....) ........Italy instead! Seems like a funny punchline now.

Note, the program was still cancelled even though Vietnam had SARS under control months before I would have been there. But, honestly, my doctors were relieved because I ave an auto-immune disorder and they weren't thrilled with the plan BEFORE the SARS.
