I also feel like people *fighting* in stores are outliers that make good news stories but aren't normal - there have been frayed nerves sure but fights breaking out isn't exactly a trend. anecdotally every time I've gone to a crowded store people have been way more eager to chat

As a person who interacts with many customers (a server... temporarily out of work) I can say that most people are good. Even on bad, busy days, most people are good. I might talk about the bad ones more..... but the good ones leave a mark.
