People resonating with Thanos as a film protagonist should have been a disturbing clue to how they'd handle this epidemic. He was so much worse of a person to identify with compared to (for example) Darth Vader, but this was totally overlooked.

Vader has a cool scary voice, he's authoritative and aggressive. Brolin and the various MCU directors opted to go with "sad middle-aged dad"/"large man speaking softly" for Thanos. Good decision, IMO - hammers home that this guy is IMMENSELY powerful and doesn't show off...

...but it has the side-effect of making him "aesthetically likable" - disconnected from the actual data of his goals, he acts/sounds like a big sad mournful lug; and our culture is wired to LOVE "that guy." He sounds like The Rock-Biter, or a Wise Old Bear of some kind.

Orwell had that edgy take about how Hitler was a perfect character type from a movie, the ordinary working class sad sack dude who just can't catch a break Chaplin made The Great Dictator based on the resemblance between Hitler and his Tramp character

It's obviously hard to judge his speeches if you don't actually speak German and for our own propaganda purposes we only played clips from the climax where he's screaming and ranting But they say for the people it worked on it was because of the buildup
