It sounds stupid but yeah no one person is going to rock the boat if all their friends decide to go out like usual And no one bar or restaurant is going to shut down on their own while all their competitors down the street are still open This is why we have authorities

Authority doesn't have to be legal/judicial or directly enforced by violence It doesn't *have to be* the state itself telling you to stay indoors or cops will actually take you to prison Shame and social norms can be just as powerful an authority if executed well

But it looks like for a lot of people we don't have authorities of either kind stepping up to talk in a way that makes people listen

We also don’t exactly have leaders that command mass trust. Even if Trump started giving people good advice it’d have limited impact because he has zero credibility for so many people.
