Yeah, sometimes that happens. When "give them enough rope so they hang themselves" strategy doesn't work. Thanks to that "platform" and strategy, Milo fell from grace. He gave him platform from which he could shout that he is for pedophilia. Joe puts their ideas into the light.

It is upon us/the community to see how bad an idea is, see them in the light of the day and ensure that the light burns those ideas to the ground. It is a thankless job baiting a-holes into the light. Because you can't be the one to nab them else you won't be able to bait more.

Based on the demographics of the show’s viewership, I don’t think the “show them their ideas are bad” plan works out very well.

Well, that can be argued. Most of his viewership is very centrist, in USA political terms. Very conservative for every other western country, but that is true for the rest of your political spectrum too. What do you propose to be a good measure of effects of Joe Rogan's shows?

It’s hard to say what a good measure would be. They upset a lot of LGBTQ folks, which is what matters to me. Given a choice between worrying about representation of moderate white men and representation of LGBTQ people, I choose the latter.

That's the problem, isn't it? They upset people. Some of his guests upset people you care about. Some of those guests upset you. But if you look at the list, you'll see that most of the guests do not upset you or them. But then conversation comes to how the human brain is wired.

It reacts to and remembers negative stimulus much more strongly than the positive ones. Because, when it comes to positive stimulus, it's just a work as usual. That's normal. When it comes to negative, that requires action. Loud, corrective action.

You say that like it's a bad thing

It usually is not a bad thing. The only problem I had with that instinct is that it tends to overreact.Othe problems start to happen when a group of people disagree about what the negative stimulus is.Then you get groups like "1million moms" ,pro-lifers and virulent homophobes.

I can never forget this video. That's the cost of overreaction. That is the cost of not thinking through the first knee jerk reaction, through that punch in the gut.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAIP6fI0NAI …

Joe Rogan is very famous and wealthy, has intentionally chosen a whole career based on courting controversy, and is not in a position to have his life ruined

I am not talking about Joe, am talking about his guests. And I am talking how dangerous overreaction on twitter can be. I haven't even heard or cared about Joe Rogan until he endorsed Bernie Sanders. Then everybody started to do molehill mountaineering and tempest-in-teacuping.

"Omg, he had transphobes on his show." "Yeah, he also had young earth creationists, aliens made pyramids kooks, homophobes and neo-nazi sympathizers on his show. And he got all of them to reveal how batshit insane they are." To reveal "their power level" in alt-right parlance.
