Not really, if you understand how rhetorical questions work But fine, I'll phrase it as a statement If sex is defined by producing small or large gametes then anyone who has surgery on their gonads has changed sex I do not consider this framing useful

It's not correct to say that producing small gametes is the definition of male sex. What biologists say is that males are of the CLASS that produces small gametes. So men before puberty, or after a double orchiectomy, are still male.

You ever notice that when you ask people to define the concept of a "CLASS" in this sense you go around in circles and they end up constantly bringing up phrases like "all going well" and "under ideal circumstances" and "if not for certain defects"

Yeah - and ultimately, you can, of course, make whatever categories you wish, based on whatever criteria you wish. You can give those categories whatever names you want. But it really means you have to ask yourself what these categories are for.

Does anyone seriously need to ask what sexual reproduction categories are for?

If the obvious answer is that they're for sexual reproduction, then why do we talk about them for people who are not trying to conceive?

And it's significant to this whole question, because there are vanishingly few circumstances where one's capacity for sexual reproduction necessarily affects other parts of their life.

Tell that to the women getting paid less, promoted less, expected to do unpaid social care work, at risk of sexual violence etc etc.

Are you actually under the impression that trans women get paid more, promoted more, carry less expectation of emotional labor, and are at less risk of sexual violence than cis women Because lol
