Hey yeah it's great news if we're only at 1,000, that means if we have a flawed but aggressive centralized quarantine regime like South Korea the rate will slow enough we'll top out at under 10,000 Oh, wait *checks notes* we're not South Korea, we're the fuckwit country

You know the whole "if you see one roach in the apartment there's twenty more" rule This country isn't an apartment, it's s giant crumbling Grey Gardens mansion no one has even cleaned in fifty years

The lower 48 United States is a vast swathe of land with a whole lot of people and no internal borders It takes a ton of infrastructure to keep an empire like that stable and for literally fifty years we've been letting that infrastructure rot

Nobody's running anything, nobody's got any idea what's going on It's absolutely impossible the virus *isn't* already everywhere, any place it isn't would have to be absurdly lucky

I feel like mathematicians need to be more involved in explaining this stuff to people, since doctors are probably as bad with the math behind it as the general public. It's almost like doctors are more tactical, and math is more strategic. I guess that makes sense.

The virus double every six days. If there are 1000 cases now that means that if we do nothing, in two months there will be over a million. That means 100,000 people will need hospitalization. 10,000 people will die. Me must take action.
-
More than 10,000 will die, because you don't have 100,000 spare hospital beds
