Yeah - it's not an epidemic with a virus or viral style of spread. In a sense, it's something that happens to the *dead*, but not the *living*.

Shaun of the Dead is also a weird case as we sort of assume it's a virus but the background detail implies it's a satellite crash ala the original Night of the living dead

That's not really how it looks in actual practice, with zombie bites being really quickly and inevitably fatal, but whatever It was Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z that codified the "infection only" zombie
