Yes, a blood based test for COVID-19 exists It's not the one the CDC is cranking out to send to hospitals and clinics, because the respiratory one works better The Red Cross blood donation centers don't have it and don't test blood for COVID-19

The CDC said as far as they know there's no reason to because there's no evidence of anyone getting COVID-19 through bloodborne transmission and it's a waste of resources You will not be tested for COVID-19 when you give blood

You do not get some kind of comprehensive health test when you give blood There isn't a magic machine they can put blood into that goes down a big checklist of all the diseases (Theranos promised to invent one but it was an obvious scam)

Blood donation centers are not clinics or hospitals, they don't have the equipment or staff of clinics or hospitals Their job is to apply the tests necessary to get the risk *to the blood supply* down to acceptable levels (a risk based on screening for healthy donors)

They do NOT do tests for the sake of your own health, to figure out exactly what's wrong with you and what the best way to treat it would be It's not their job and they're not equipped for it It is better to get tests from a free clinic, however low-level, than blood drives

I'm self-RTing because this shit is VERY IMPORTANT to have facts out there about And spreading misinformation in order to "make a general point" that US healthcare is bad is a really shitty and dangerous thing to do

And tell me where I spread misinformation? Because I never retweeted the original tweet.
